In a particular scene, the movie tips its hat to Lucy when Isabel sends her husband out into the desert shooting with her protective brothers. When Alex returns home stuck with numerous porcupine quills and in a lot of pain, he angerly tells Isabel, "Lucy, you have some 'splaining to do."

Even if she is a communist.” A friend comes up behind her and says matter-of-factly, “The only thing red about Lucy is her hair, and even that’s fake. Desi said it; Winchell wrote it.”
